Use of Benzodiazepines (and related medications) for flying
Patients sometimes ask the doctor or nurse to prescribe diazepam, or similar sedative drugs for fear of flying or to help sleep during flights. Diazepam in the UK is a Class C/Schedule IV controlled drug.
Download a short guide here (PDF, 111KB) that outlines the issues surrounding its use with regards to flying and why The Scott Practice no longer prescribes such medications for this purpose.
Procedures Performed By Organisations External To The Scott Practice
We are unable to prescribe sedatives, such as diazepam, for any procedure or scan being undertaken outside of The Scott Practice, this includes MRI scans and dental procedures.
